It is with deep gratitude and fond remembrance that we honor Marie Wallace Powers, a cherished past Board Trustee and longtime supporter of Bigs & Littles NYC Mentoring. Marie passed away peacefully on September 27, 2025, at the age of 91. Marie’s commitment to our mission was rooted in her lifelong dedication to education, service, and community. A graduate of Marymount College and Columbia University, she devoted her early career to teaching and later brought her leadership, wisdom, and generous spirit to our Board. Her contributions helped shape our work and expand opportunities for young people across New York City. Over the past decade, Marie began directing special support to our emergency funds — often describing this assistance as “heaven sent” for families facing sudden hardship with nowhere else to turn. She understood that timely help at critical moments could make all the difference and responded with both compassion and conviction. Through a meaningful legacy gift in her will, Marie ensured that her commitment to Bigs & Littles NYC will continue for generations to come. We are profoundly grateful for her extraordinary generosity and hope her example will inspire others to consider the enduring impact of planned giving. Marie’s legacy lives on in the lives she helped shape and in the future she so thoughtfully invested in.
