Ways to Contribute

  • Founded in 1902 Bigs & Littles NYC Mentoring addresses the social, emotional and academic challenges facing vulnerable New York City youth by providing one-to-one mentoring services supported by life skills programming, crisis intervention, family support, and referral assistance. In order to serve more children, Bigs & Littles NYC Mentoring is in need of mentors ages 21+ who are interested in spending 8-10 hours per month with a Little Sister or Little Brother.   • In our site- based mentoring program, World of Work (W.O.W.), High school students matched with mentors from our corporate partner meet twice monthly on a weekday afternoon onsite at the company. The curriculum for the W.O.W. program covers 21st Century Skills, with an overarching focus on workplace exposure and career preparation. Please let us know if your workplace may be interested in hosting youth in the W.O.W. mentoring program.

    • Ten employees who are interested in inspiring and impacting a young person’s life are matched one-on- one with ten youth from a high-needs high school in your neighborhood

    • Matches meet onsite from 4-6 pm on a weekday every other week during the school year

    • A Bigs & Littles NYC Program Manager manages all aspects of the program, i.e. mentor interviews, match supervision, facilitation and supervision of all meetings and the development and implementation of workplace curricula; Topics include: Financial Literacy, Effective Communication and Goal Setting

    •Company Investment: $25,000 ($2,500 contribution per match); Space for mentoring activities; Snacks

  • Bigs & Littles NYC Mentoring hosts an array of special events throughout the year, including cornerstone events like our Gala, Golf Outing, and the October Ball. Each year a group of dedicated supporters serve on our committees to make these events the success that they are. If you are interested in joining us at these events or being a part of these teams, let us know! Upcoming events include:

    October Ball - Join Bigs & Littles NYC Mentoring for one of NYC’s most anticipated events of the social season, the 24th Annual October Ball, a Venetian Masquerade Party with free-flowing drinks, dancing and an array of culinary delights, at 59 Park Avenue on Saturday October 29th, 9pm -1pm.

    Whiskey and Scotch Tasting - Join Bigs & Littles NYC Mentoring at our Around the World Whiskey and Scotch Tasting on Thursday Nov 10th, 6:30pm at the New York Athletic Club, 180 Central Park South. Our esteemed tour guide on this journey of exquisite international whiskeys, Kurt Maitland, is a celebrated Author of three treasured cocktail handbooks, Deputy Editor of the Whiskey Reviewer and curator of the Manhattan Whiskey Club. His passion for spirits and travel has taken him around the globe, educating people on the joys of whiskey.

  • Bigs & Littles NYC Mentoring is contacted daily by families seeking mentoring services for their children but we can’t serve youth without the help of volunteer mentors. Help us to spread the word, add us to your website as a community partner, engage with us on social media, and refer friends and family members to be volunteers. Please follow us on social media, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn, connect us with your professional and affinity networks, We rely on connections with organizations, businesses, and community groups to recruit new volunteers for our mentoring programs. Please contact us if your workplace, alma matter alumni group, or intermural team may be interested in learning more about opportunities to mentor.

  • There are over 500,000 children from single parent homes, living in poverty in New York City that would benefit from a caring adult mentor. With thought, care and dedication, Bigs & Littles NYC Mentoring builds long lasting, professionally supported, one to one relationships that inspire young people throughout New York City to fulfill their potential. The average cost to sponsor a match for one year, including volunteer screening, training and guidance, and access to life skills group workshops and comprehensive family support services is $5,000. With your gift, Bigs & Littles NYC Mentoring can match more youth with mentors off of our wait list. If you can, please give generously and share our mission with your friends and family. Additionally, we are always grateful for opportunities to apply for funding, contributions of in-kind donations or volunteer time as pro-bono experts, all of which help enhance our programs. Every little bit counts!

    End-of-Year Donation: Does your company, your colleagues, or your friends earmark end-of-year donations? We accept tax- deductible donations year-round, including a year-end annual appeal. Help to support our mission by posting appeal information on your social media and company website.

    Matching Gifts: Does your company offer a matching gifts program? Did you know you can double your impact? On average, one in ten companies match employee donations, and many companies offer volunteer grants to organizations where employees volunteer their time.

    Become a Trustee: We are always looking to build and diversify leadership on the Board level. Annual commitment of $10,000 either in individual donation or in funds raised.

    Join our Executive Junior Board: This committee raises funds to support the services provided by Bigs & Littles NYC, increase awareness of Bigs & Littles NYC in its members’ social and professional networks, and to create an exciting environment where professionals can deepen their understanding of issues faced by NYC children living in hardship, gain governance experience, socialize and make a difference. The Junior Board strives to collectively raise $50,000 through its events and to recruit mentors Each member of the Executive Junior Board strives to raise $5000 (through personal donations or solicitation of other donors).
